Africa Roadmap InitiativeFollowing the strategic objectives of UNU 2009-2012, UNU-ViE supports the implementation of the Roadmap Initiative for Africa pursuing the goal to make UNU activities in and on Africa of greater relevance to the African continent and its people, the United Nations organizations and UNU end-users. The successful applicant will:
- assist UNU staff in drafting and reviewing concept documents, meeting minutes, and all related communication in the framework of the project Africa Roadmap Initiative
- assist UNU staff in analysing past activities of UNU institutes with a focus on Africa (capacity development, research, fellowships, publications, etc.)
- support the organization of events, including logistical arrangements
- assist UNU staff in all necessary academic and/or administrative tasks as the needs arise.

IDEAS Section
The section IDEAS of the Vice Rectorate of the United Nations University (UNU) in Europe aims at strengthening institutional growth of UNU in the world with particular emphasis on Europe, Africa and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). These institutional development issues are the core focus of the Executive Office. The successful applicant will, among others:
-
Translate different types of texts from English and French (and vice-versa), notably institutional, strategic, scientific, and legal concepts and papers
-
Develop an English/French glossary of the most frequently used terms with regards to Disaster Risk Management
-
Assist in the drafting and preparation of reports, concept notes, visit agendas, correspondence, presentations, and other material relating to the Vice-Rectorate’s activities in Africa, includinglegal documents such as Letter of Intents and Memoranda of Understanding.

Procurement & Human Resources
Under the overall authority of the UNU-Vice-Rector in Europe and the supervision of the Procurement and Personnel Administration Manager, the intern shall work closely with the Procurement Management Specialist and Administrative Associate and shall, among others:

Assist in implementing an asset management system for the procurement department including data recording, analyzing and reporting

Assist in general procurement activities including preparation and analysis of solicitations, negotiations, risk management and evaluation

Assist in ATLAS (UN ERP System)
-
Assist in the data entry of Human Resources related data such as leave applications.

Technical & Media Assistance
The SCIENTIA section of UNU-ViE supports the development of research and science-based policy programmes and explores innovative pathways to advance capacity development with a special focus on e-learning and knowledge management in the higher education context in developing countries. The successful candidate will:
-
provide assistance in the development of training activities, including the selection, preparation and assembling of e-learning material
-
develop and/or refine pedagogical training tools for interactive, face-to-face workshops and online portals related to capacity development in and through e-learning
-
undertake research that may provide necessary input into such training tools and exercises
-
compile evaluation results of training activities and support the preparation of the events including necessary logistical arrangements and communication with the participants.

Graphic Design
The SCIENTIA section of UNU-ViE supports the development of research and science based policy programmes and explores innovative pathways to advance capacity development with a special focus on e-learning and knowledge management in the higher education context in developing countries. The successful candidate will:

provide assistance in the creation of the UNU visual database containing UNU relevant icons that can be used for graphic facilitation and graphic recording

assist the UNU-ViE SCIENTIA section with the implementation of a video series as educational material (the format of the video series is based on the visualization of complex concepts and ideas. The videos are planned to have a length of approx. 5 minutes. The common style of the series is a cut-out animation)

support the graphic design of the section’s blog SCIENTIA Learning Hub.
