DLR – DAAD – Fellowships (Germany)

Research Area: Space

Research Topic: 3D object change detection in high and very high resolution stereo satellite imagery

DLR Institute: Remote Sensing Technology Institute (IMF) at DLR Oberpfaffenhofen

Position: Doctoral Fellow

Job Specification: Algorithm development for robust and automatic 3D object change detection based on optical high and very high resolution stereo satellite imagery like WorldView-2, GeoEye-1, Pleiades, SkyBox etc. Starting from digital surface models (DSM), 3D information of above ground objects have to be derived and, including information from multispectral image data, robust change detection procedures shall be developed. If GIS information, e.g. building footprints, is available the integration of these data shall be investigated. Accuracy analysis and comparison to given or manually extracted ground truth has to be performed.

Required Qualification: The candidate should have a strong background in hotogrammetry and image analysis. Experience in photogrammetric adjustment and evaluation of high and very high resolution optical satellite data is required. Furthermore the candidate should also have some general knowledge in spatial data analysis, applied programming and remote sensing. Open communication and team spirit are furthermore expected.

He/she should be able to work in a team at the Remote Sensing Technology Institute of DLR as well as self-reliant during times, and to present results at international conferences and in scientific journals.

Advantageous Skills: Good knowledge in Matlab and/or Python programming is of advantage.

English competence: very good

Earliest Start Date: November 2014

Application Deadline: August 31st 2014
