Job Description
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has appointed the solar physics groupof the Institute as a top-tier research group. The group participates heavily in the Hinode and IRIS space borne solar observatories and guaranteed access to about 50 observing days per year at the Swedish 1m Solar Telescope is utilized vigorously. A very strong activity has been built up within numerical modelling of astrophysical plasmas and radiation fields, with main application to heating of the solar chromosphere and corona.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has appointed the cosmology group of the Institute as an emerging top-tier research group. The participation in the European Space Agency’s flagship mission Planck, a strong effort in fundamental cosmological theory and participation in ESA’s future Euclid mission act as foci for consolidating the group and developing it further to become one of Norway’s internationally most visible research groups in the physical sciences.
The position is open for candidates both within solar physics and within cosmology, or who can have synergy with one or both groups. In selection, weight will be given to the documented research potential of the candidates, and to how their research competences can interact with and complement the research activities of one of the two research groups.
