Sweden: Ph.D. student positions in Mathematics with specialization in Combinatorial Probability Theory

The Department of Mathematics performs research and provides education on undergraduate to postgraduate levels in mathematics, applied mathematics, and mathematical statistics. The number of employees is almost 100, of which 30 are PhD students. The number of students is ca 600.

Duties: The aim of the research is to study various problems in combinatorial probability theory and to develop methods for the study of such problems. This includes, for example, random graphs, random trees, and probabilistic problems from the study of algorithms. Teaching will be included to a maximum of 20% of full time.

Qualifications required: The applicant should have a Master of Science in mathematics, engineering physics or from a comparable field. Employment as a PhD student is granted for a duration of at most five years, and includes department duties up to 20% (usually teaching). The ability to teach in Swedish or English is a firm requirement. A good level of command of written and spoken English is a firm requirement. Good command of probability theory is of merit.

The application should also contain a CV, a copy of relevant grades (translated to Swedish or English), a copy of the undergraduate or master thesis (or a preliminary version thereof), and other relevant documents. The applicant is urged to supply letters of recommendation, and contact information to references, and to indicate the earliest possible date of appointment.
