Nevertheless, the act of writing back to the empire interlocks African (including South and North African) writers and Caribbean authors in a binary stance whereby the relationship of Anglophone authors with the West is fraught with post-colonial tensions and aporias, as is evident in the works of Chinua Achebe, Ngugi wa Thiong\u2019o, Samuel Selvon, Tayeb Salih, Tsitsi Dangarembga, and Derek Walcott. Some of the questions the panel will address include: Does the second wave of African and Caribbean Authors, i.e. authors whose works emerged after 1980, follow this pattern, of writing back to the empire? Does the Empire continue to be epicentre in their works, or have they managed to forge a different relationship with the West, and the world in general, that transcend Manichean binarism? What are the themes and issues depicted in their writings? What are the characteristics of their writings? How do current authors depict race and racial tensions in their works? What are the ideologies and literary influences that shape the writings of those authors?
