{"id":510,"date":"2011-08-02T05:58:41","date_gmt":"2011-08-02T05:58:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/africa-and-science.com\/?p=510"},"modified":"2011-08-04T06:08:24","modified_gmt":"2011-08-04T06:08:24","slug":"joel-gregory-prize-2012-prix-joel-gregory-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africa-and-science.com\/?p=510","title":{"rendered":"Joel Gregory Prize 2012 \/ Prix Joel Gregory 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The Canadian Association of African Studies is seeking nominees for the prestigious Joel Gregory book prize 2012, by 15 December 2011 for monographs published in 2010 and 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Joel Gregory Prize 2012<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Canadian Association of African Studies recognizes excellence in scholarship through an award established in 1989 in honour of leading demographer and one-time editor of the Canadian Journal of African Studies \/ Revue canadienne des \u00e9tudes africaines, Joel Gregory.\u00a0 The Joel Gregory Prize, valued at $1,000, is announced at the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association of African Studies. Nominations are accepted in the two years preceding the conferring of the Prize.\u00a0 The winner of the 2010 competition (covering books published in the calendar years 2008 and 2009) was announced at the Africa Matters conference, 05-07 May, 2010, Carleton University. Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2012 Prize, for books published (or to be published) in the years 2010 and 2011.<br \/>\nThe Joel Gregory Prize is awarded to the best book published in African Studies in the social sciences and humanities, written by a Canadian, a landed immigrant, or an African who has completed a Ph. Avant sa mort en 1988, Jo\u00ebl \u00e9tait professeur de d\u00e9mographie \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al, pr\u00e9sident de l\u2019association et r\u00e9dacteur de la Revue canadienne des \u00e9tudes africaines.<br \/>\nLe Prix Jo\u00ebl Gregory est d\u00e9cern\u00e9 tous les deux ans pour la meilleure monographie qui porte sur l\u2019Afrique dans les sciences sociales et humaines \u00e9crite par une canadienne ou un canadien, un immigrant ou une immigrante r\u00e9\u00e7u-e, une personne de l\u2019Afrique qui a fait son doctorat au Canada ou qui a travaill\u00e9 pour un organisme canadien qui a promu la connaissance de l\u2019Afrique.<br \/>\nLe Prix Jo\u00ebl Gregory, d\u2019une valeur de $1,000, est annonc\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019Assembl\u00e9e g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de l\u2019AC\u00c9A. Les \u00e9diteurs doivent envoyer trois copies des livres s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;adresse ci-dessous avant le 15 d\u00e9cembre 2011 (pour le Prix de 2012). Les livres collectifs comportant de nombreux articles par des auteurs diff\u00e9rents ne sont pas \u00e9ligibles. Cependant, des monographies \u00e9crites par de co-auteurs telles que d\u00e9finies par le crit\u00e8re #2 seront re\u00e7us. Les travaux de deux auteurs et plus ainsi les manuels et les livres de synth\u00e8se ne sont pas accept\u00e9s.<br \/>\nLes crit\u00e8res d&rsquo;admissibilit\u00e9 sont:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. Le travail doit \u00eatre original et innovateur et doit avoir un impact sur les \u00e9tudes africaines;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. Il doit inclure une approche m\u00e9thodologique ou une approche th\u00e9orique et analytique innovante qui, pr\u00e9f\u00e9rablement, transcenderait les barri\u00e8res disciplinaires;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3. Il doit \u00eatre bas\u00e9 sur des recherches approfondies;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">4.
