{"id":4837,"date":"2012-09-25T00:57:02","date_gmt":"2012-09-25T00:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/africa-and-science.com\/?p=4837"},"modified":"2013-01-15T16:18:01","modified_gmt":"2013-01-15T16:18:01","slug":"call-for-abstracts-mdgs-achievement-economic-growth-and-social-activism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africa-and-science.com\/?p=4837","title":{"rendered":"Call for Abstracts &#8211; MDGs: Achievement, Economic Growth and Social Activism"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/africa-and-science.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/UN-MDGs-26-sept-2012.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4838\" title=\"UN-MDGs 26 sept 2012\" src=\"https:\/\/africa-and-science.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/UN-MDGs-26-sept-2012-150x126.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"126\" \/><\/a>Dr. Leah McMillan and colleagues are in a process of publishing a peer-reviewed edited volume entitled:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>MDGs: Achievement, Economic Growth and Social Activism.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Millennium Development Goals have guided worldwide development policies, at all levels, since their emergence at the Millennium Declaration in 2000.\u00a0 With the 2000 Paris Declaration, donors and civil society organizations became even more committed to ensuring that the MDGs were the overarching goals towards which all development policies pointed.\u00a0 However, in a world where global uncertainties can quickly change the nature of global policies, it is critical to examine the extent to which change has occurred in socio-economic policies and programs seeking to achieve the MDGs by 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The post-2015 globe is predicted to continue down the road of economic turbulence that was incited by the economic crisis.\u00a0 This poses particular challenges for a development system that is so reliant on global forces for its achievement.\u00a0 This volume will analyze change that has occurred in policies aimed at MDG realization, assessing the extent to which MDGs have been achieved in varying regions, national programs designed to achieve the MDGs, and the motivating factors behind these prescriptions.\u00a0 Ultimately, the volume will examine challenges, and opportunities, for globally-conceived development policy initiatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0Abstracts are invited that speak to countries and regions within the following five classifications<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">East Asia and Pacific, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East and North Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The initiators of the project are inviting abstracts for chapters to be placed in the following four sections:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Section 1:\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">How have countries performed economically following the crisis, including GDP, structure of productive, and aid and private capital flows and remittances, if applicable?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Section 2:\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">ACHIEVEMENT OF MDGS \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What achievements have been made towards the MDGs and what are the motivations behind these policies?\u00a0 How has the crisis impacted the achievement of the main areas of MDGs (i.e. malnourishment and undernourishment, primary education, gender equality, etc.)?\u00a0 What can policies and motivations behind them teach the global community to better fashion a post-2015 social program?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Section 3:\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">SOCIAL PROGRAMS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Looking at relative importance of external versus domestic factors on government policies\/programmes to achieve MDGs or other similar social goals, what major programmes exist in the social sphere and what are government expenditures on social programming since the crisis?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<strong>Section 4:\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">MOTIVATION FOR THE PROGRAMS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What motivates governments to continue efforts in programs?\u00a0 For example, is it civil society or advocacy group pressure?\u00a0 donor obligations?\u00a0 IFIs?
