The chair consists of approximately 30 scientists and is led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. W. Marquardt. The research focuses mainly on the development and analysis of mathematical models, optimization based process control, and process synthesis. Applications originate from chemical and biological separation processes, multi-phase reaction processes, water treatment, and energy optimization. More information around our research is available on our website at http://www.avt.rwth-aachen.de.
Your profile:
We require from the candidate a successful M.Sc. in process engineering, computational engineering science, applied mathematics, or a related discipline such as electrical engineering, computer science, or physics. It is beneficial to have knowledge in e.g. numerical mathematics, (dynamic) optimization, automatic differentiation, scientific computing, programming (preferably in C++), modeling of dynamical processes, or systems theory. Your experience in interdisciplinary projects is likewise beneficial. Creativity and enthusiasm are key components in our work group as well as communicative competence in German and/or English.

Your duties and responsibilities:
You will be working on the project JADE. JADE is a platform that manipulates and automatically differentiates dynamic models, which are described by languages such as Modelica. There is a close cooperation with the chair of “Software and Tools for Computational Engineering” at the RWTH Aachen University as well as the “Institute of Bio and Geo Sciences” at the FZ Jülich. The JADE platform will be applied to differential-algebraic models (DAEs) and differential-algebraic models with embedded objective function (DAEOs). Additionally, it will be used for structural model identification enabling equation based process models, which are required for parameter estimation, dynamic optimization or optimal experimental design. These applications require gradient information for a successful solution. You will contribute to the conceptual software design of JADE. Your task is to work methodically on the interface between modeling environment and AD tool. You will be working closely with our developers of the software tool DyOS.
Our offer:
The candidate will be employed as a regular employee.
