Apr\u00e8s chaque coup de force militaire, les archives documentaires, les mus\u00e9es et autres sites de m\u00e9moires sont les premi\u00e8res victimes. L&rsquo;invasion de l&rsquo;Irak et la prise de la capitale politique par les forces am\u00e9ricaines en 2003 avaient mis en p\u00e9ril le mus\u00e9e arch\u00e9ologique de Bagdad dont les collections couvrent 7000 ans d&rsquo;histoire. Malgr\u00e9 la prise de conscience internationale et la mobilisation des forces d&rsquo;occupation elles-m\u00eames, de nombreuses pi\u00e8ces d&rsquo;histoire de l&rsquo;humanit\u00e9 disparues apr\u00e8s la chute de Saddam\u00a0Hussein\u00a0demeurent toujours introuvable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La\u00a0r\u00e9gion\u00a0de Tombouctou au Mali ne fait pas\u00a0exception. Il y a quelques jours, cette partie du nord du Mali est tomb\u00e9 sous le giron des forces rebelles actives dans le nord depuis belle lurette. Ce basculement faisait suite au coup d&rsquo;\u00c9tat qui a mis fin le 22 Mars dernier au r\u00e9gion de Amadou Toumani Tour\u00e9 (ATT). Comme il est de principe en pareille circonstance, les archives historiques de la ville de Tombouctou, berceau de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 africaine, sont aujourd&rsquo;hui menac\u00e9es. Yanco, director of the West African Research Association (WARA) in Boston, recently alertedALA\u2019s International Relations Office (IRO) and other organizations of the volatile military and political situation in Mali, which could threaten the safety of hundreds of thousands of ancient and medieval manuscripts in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Timbuktu\">city of Timbuktu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On April 6, Tuareg rebels from the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/english.alarabiya.net\/articles\/2012\/04\/06\/205763.html\">declared<\/a>\u00a0the northern part of Mali (which includes Timbuktu) independent. This followed a March 22 military coup that overthrew President Amadou Toumani Toure for not providing enough troops to suppress the rebels in the north.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Malian scholars and librarians are currently hiding away the precious manuscripts to keep them out of any future conflict within the rebel-held city. Cape Town University Professor Shamil Jeppie\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/topNews\/idAFJOE83A01020120411\">told Reuters<\/a>\u00a0that he was in daily contact with curators and private owners safeguarding the historic texts.
