{"id":1508,"date":"2011-12-13T00:55:28","date_gmt":"2011-12-13T00:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/africa-and-science.com\/?p=1508"},"modified":"2012-01-15T00:16:07","modified_gmt":"2012-01-15T00:16:07","slug":"funded-ma-or-phd-research-position-in-political-ecology-conservation-migration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africa-and-science.com\/?p=1508","title":{"rendered":"Funded MA or PhD Research Position in Political Ecology \/ Conservation\/ Migration"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div id=\"divFlag\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/web\/css\/yeb11yorklogo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"50\" \/>Dr. Elizabeth Lunstrum (Department of Geography, York University) is  recruiting\u00a0an MA and\/or PhD student beginning September 2012 to work on  research related\u00a0to conservation, labour migration, and\/or displacement in  southern Africa\u2019s\u00a0Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park (GLTP).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"mailContent\">\n<div id=\"message386426501\">\n<div id=\"yiv368432905\">\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The research will be part of a larger SSHRC-funded project  entitled\u00a0\u201cReorganizing borders, reorganizing mobility: transfrontier  conservation,\u00a0labour migration, and the transformation of the  Mozambican\/South African\u00a0border.\u201d The project investigates the changing  nature and function of the\u00a0Mozambican \/ South African border within the GLTP  and how this is impacting (1)\u00a0migrant labourers traveling through the park  and (2) communities living in and\u00a0near the Mozambican portion of the  park.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The position will fund research in South Africa and\/or Mozambique related to  the\u00a0larger project and the student\u2019s MA or PhD thesis and will enable  opportunities\u00a0for joint publications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Applicants must have an appropriate background in Human Geography,  Political\u00a0Ecology, Environmental Studies, African Studies, Migration Studies,  and\/or\u00a0Political Science.\u00a0 Applicants with previous research experience will  be\u00a0particularly competitive.
