{"id":1477,"date":"2011-12-06T00:56:14","date_gmt":"2011-12-06T00:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/africa-and-science.com\/?p=1477"},"modified":"2012-01-15T00:13:42","modified_gmt":"2012-01-15T00:13:42","slug":"theology-as-science-scholarships-for-african-students-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africa-and-science.com\/?p=1477","title":{"rendered":"Theology as Science: Scholarships for African Students in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uni-frankfurt.de\/layout\/img\/logo_goethe_universitaet.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"123\" \/>DFG-Graduate Programme 1728 &#8211; \u00a0\u00bbTheologie als Wissenschaft\u00a0\u00bb<\/h2>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>We advise African Students to submit their application as soon as possible<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Application deadline is: 31.12.2011<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The newly-established graduate programme \u00ab\u00a0Theologie als Wissenschaft\u201d \u2013 a joint programme between Goethe University, Frankfurt, Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, the Institute for Jewish Studies, Heidelberg and the Sankt Georgen Institute for Philosophy and Theology, Frankfurt, funded by the\u00a0<em>Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft <\/em>(DFG) \u2013 invites applications for the following positions as part of its first funding phase which is due to commence on 1st April 2012:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">12 Scholarships for Doctoral Candidates (\u20ac1,200 pcm)<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(limited to a maximum of three years)<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Graduate Programme<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The graduate programme will examine the constitution of reflexivity within different traditions of belief from an historical and systematic perspective, focusing on exemplary fields of conflict between the religious traditions themselves and with their \u2018secular\u2019 surroundings. The following subjects fall into the remit of this: systematic theology, historical theology und exegesis (Jewish, Islamic, Protestant and Catholic), philosophy and philosophy of religion (systematic und historical) as well as ancient history. More information on the research and qualification concept of the programme and on how to apply can be found at:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theol.uni-frankfurt.de\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.theol.uni-frankfurt.de<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Application Requirements<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Applicants should hold a university degree (Diplom, Staatsexamen, M.A. or equivalent qualification) in theology, Jewish Studies, Islamic Studies, philosophy, history or a related subject of an above average classification and have sufficient knowledge of German and English or, failing this, be prepared to attain a suitable level of fluency in both languages within in a reasonable period of time. Applicants should have excellent team-working skills and be able to demonstrate evidence of their academic knowledge and show an interest in the work of the GRK and be prepared for new experiences in an interdisciplinary and interreligious context as well as be willing and able to reside in the Rhein-Main-Neckar region.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Application Materials<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The following documents should be submitted as part of your application:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>an application form (see:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theol.unifrankfurt.de\/\"><strong>www.theol.unifrankfurt.de<\/strong><\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>a curriculum vitae<\/li>\n<li>a letter of motivation<\/li>\n<li>a copy\/copies of your degree certificate(s)<\/li>\n<li>an electronic version of your final dissertation<\/li>\n<li>a letter of recommendation from a former supervisor\/university lecturer<\/li>\n<li>a list of publications to-date<\/li>\n<li>a fiveto ten page-long research proposal for the planned thesis<\/li>\n<li>a timeplan in which it should be completed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Goethe University, Frankfurt welcomes applications from international applicants<\/span>, and actively supports diversity and equal opportunities between men and women as a necessary sign of the development of excellence and has officially been recognized as an institution which supports students and employees with children since 2005.
