Theodore Wonja Michael THE LAST BLACK WITNESS (1925-2019) ! Rest in perfect peace.
Born in Berlin in 1925, was forced to act in « human zoos » during his childhood. His three siblings fled to France after « Negroids » were declared « undesirable » in 1936, but Michael couldn’t leave Germany. He worked as a bellhop at Berlin’s Hotel Excelsior (before being kicked out by a Nazi guest).*
In early 1943, Michael was sent with other Afro-Germans into a forced-labour camp near Berlin. Theodore Wonja survived the Nazi terror. Many other Black germans–Cameroonians like Martin Dibobe, Erika N’gando were deported and murdered in concentration camps. *
