9 PhD Scholarships in Linguistics: International Doctorate for Experimental Approaches to Language And Brain (IDEALAB)

Requirements

Requirement for successful candidates for the PhD program is a Master’s (or qualified equivalent degree) in Speech and language pathology, Psycho-/ Neurolinguistics, Clinical Linguistics or other language-related fields with a very good grade (at least a B or the equivalent).

Further requirements for successful candidates include:

  • outstanding academic achievement
  • excellent oral and written English language skills
  • aptitude for original, independent and creative work
  • research experience

 

Application

To make clear reference to the joint doctoral training at the partner universities, there are common application and selection procedures, common quality assessment and program monitoring.

Additionally required documents

– a personal and academic curriculum vitae,
– a description of the motivation for applying to the program,
– a 8-10 pages research proposal (see template),
– research-motivated preference for a home university and
– the mobility plan,
– a certified copy of highest degree certificates and
– of academic records,
– reference letters of two academics in English,
– a proof of sufficient English language knowledge, and
– a copy of the identification papers or passport.

Procedure

  1. Please send all required documents electronically as pdf-files to applicationATem-idealabDOTcom in as few separate e-mails as possible. Make sure that the subject line is identical to your name! Please number the e-mails if you send more than one (e.g., 1/3, 2/3 etc.)
  2. Ask your professors to send their reference letters by November 15th to the e-mail address above with your name in the subject line!
  3. Shortlisted candidates are requested to submit certified copies of all certificates by mid January. Authentication of all documents will be accepted only if performed by a notary public, by the Embassy or Consulate in your home country, or by the institution that has issued the original document. If the documents are not in English, officially authenticated translations have to be added.
  4. Skype-interviews will be held in January.
