PhD Scholarship : Function of the cytocine MIF in motility- University of Giessen (Germany)
Work in the research project about the mechanisms of action of the cytokine macrophage migration inhibitory factor-(MIF). Earlier studies by our group led to a more detailed characterization of the MIF- interactome JBC (2009) 284, 34944-34953 and JBC (2009) 284, 7977-7985). The aim now is to deepen the functional investigation of the interaction of MIF with different binding partners. The focus is on mechanistic studies on regulation of actin cytoskeleton, but also preparation for structural studies of a complex of MIF with its endogenous inhibitor RP S19 (collaboration with Elias Lolis, Yale University, New Haven). Moreover, there is an obligation to take on teaching duties in accordance with the ‘Regulation teaching obligation’ of the State of Hesse (§ 65 HHG).
The programme starts in 01.04.2012 for a duration of 36 months. The working Language of the programme is English and German. PhD thesis can be submitted in English.
