We develop light microscopes with spatial resolution down to a few nanometers that allow to image biological specimens at unprecedented levels of detail. The group is looking for a Ph.D. student to take advantage of these exciting new capabilities to study the organization of the cytoskeleton in neurons. The project aims at characterizing the interplay between cytoskeletal rearrangements and synaptic plasticity. The candidate will carry out the research project in close collaboration with the chemists and microscopists in the department. He/she will develop and optimize approaches for the imaging of the structures of interest under fixed and live conditions, and implement image analysis routines.
The candidate should have an excellent track record, be highly motivated and prepared to work in a truly multidisciplinary and international team. He/she should hold a Master’s (or equivalent) degree in life sciences and have a strong background in biotechnology, cell biology or neurosciences (or related subjects). Experience with light microscopy (super-resolution or confocal microscopy) and image analysis is desirable.
Ph. D. candidates have the opportunity to participate in one of several interdisciplinary Ph. D. programs in collaboration with the University of Göttingen.
The payment and benefits are based on the TVöD guidelines.
