Ph.D. fellowships in the area of Synthetic Biology (Denmark)

We are seeking a Ph.D student to join our newly established and highly international research center – The Novo Nordisk Foundation for Biosustainability, Technical University of Denmark, and become part of the Nørholm lab in the Bacterial Cell Factory Section.

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will be working on projects concerning engineering of membrane proteins, biosynthetic pathways and microbes for production of medicinal compounds. The position is part of a team of scientists working with membrane proteins, synthetic biology and metabolic engineering. A key objective of the PhD project is to develop new technologies to improve expression of multi-enzyme complexes in microorganisms. This is accomplished using a combination of biochemical and molecular methods such as GFP-based expression optimization and advanced uracil-excision DNA assembly.

Qualifications
Masters in relevant field.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with M.Sc. degrees in synthetic biology or related discipline. Candidates with some knowledge of genetic engineering of bacteria, DNA assembly, membrane proteins, fluorescence microscopy or FACS analysis will be preferred, but none of these qualifications are formal requirements.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 3 years.
