10 Doctoral Grants DFG Research Training Group 1539: Visibility and Visualization. Hybrid Forms of Pictorial Knowledge

Logo Uni PostdamThe University of Potsdam announces 10 postgraduate grants under the interdisciplinary DFG-Graduiertenkolleg (Research Training Group) ´Visibility and Visualization. Hybrid Forms of Pictorial Knowledge´ (GRK 1539) starting April 1st 2014. The Research Training Group is engaged in image and visualization processes of all kinds within the scholarships and the arts. Apart from philosophy, art and media studies, general and comparative as well as medieval literary studies, also cognition psychology, mathematics of dynamic systems, computer science and geo-information (cartography), physics and design subjects are represented. The run-time of the grants amounts to 36 months maximal. The compensation occurs in line with the guidelines of the DFG: http://www.dfg.de/formulare/2_22a/2_22a.pdf
Please note that the working language is German.

The Research Training Group is looking for outstanding dissertation projects, especially those located at the interfaces of the disciplines mentioned above. Please find more information on the website of the founding members. Applications from the field of natural sciences and mathematics are explicitly wanted. In accordance with the profile of the Kolleg please note that also projects introducing an artistic part are particularly welcome.

An above-average degree is expected in one of the above-mentioned subjects as well as an independent dissertation project within the subject area of the Research Training Group and experiences with interdisciplinary collaboration.
