10 PhD Positions in Biology of Ageing (Germany)

IMPRS-Age invites applications for 10 PhD fellowships

The International Max Planck Research School IMPRS-Age is the new graduate school of the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing formed together with the Max Planck Institute for Neurological Research, and the Center of Advanced European Studies and Research (CAESAR).

About us
We are exploring fundamental questions about the nature of ageing and longevity in various model organisms. Join us to find out:
Why organisms age?
What biological processes determine lifespan?
What are the roles of genes and environment?
The overall goal of our institute is to understand the natural ageing process and to discover longevity mechanisms that enhance health and ameliorate age-related diseases. In particular, our research focuses on the roles of signalling through insulin/insulin-like growth factor and steroidal hormones, cellular components involved in growth control and nutrient sensing, factors regulating metabolism and the function of mitochondria and mechanisms of neurodegeneration and other age-related diseases. We collaborate with the CECAD Graduate School of the CECAD Cluster of Excellence in Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-associated Diseases at the University of Cologne.

Requirements
We are looking for motivated young researchers with a strong interest in the above topics. The PhD programme is open to applicants holding a Diploma or Master?s or equivalent degree in biology or a related subject. Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English.

What we offer
We offer an international PhD programme with a 3-year advanced training in the field of ageing research. A thesis committee will provide comprehensive support and mentorship for your career development. You will learn modern techniques from experts in our excellent scientific environment. The new laboratories provide state-of-the-art technical equipment and services in modern research facilities. Through our soft skill courses you can develop communication skills essential for a successful scientific career. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a selection workshop on site in Cologne. Selected candidates will be supported through IMPRS fellowships.
