No single African University in the Top 100 (2011-2012 World Ranking)

The list of the Top universities by reputation for the year 2012 is actually available. The USA leads the world championship: Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of California Berkeley, Princeton University, Yale University, etc., are very well known world class institutions. Not surprising that they belong to the top 10. The observer can’t be surprised by the position of the UK: University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Imperial College in London, have always been considered temples of science. The University of Toronto (position 16) is the best Canadian University according to the ranking. However, the list of the Top 100 is enriched by the position of Brazil: The University of Sao Paulo belongs to the Top 70. This position is better than that of several well known western Universities. The University of Paris Sorbonne which is the best in France, for instance, is situated between positions 71 and 80.

    I’m not astonished at all. The present concept of « university » is a western creation and we’ve just copy it.

    Second, « they » want Africa to remain begger in either domain, the same as in eductaion. So they don’t conveniently share the financial means available. The most you are financially rich, the best your performance are, same as with olympic games, for example.

    University of Cape Town is the best ranked university in Africa, ranked 387th in the world by Webometrics!
