Prof. Ian SPEARS, Political Scientist, University of Guelph (Canada)

Ian SPEARS: Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Guelph (Canada)

The current political situation in Africa and particular in Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire) draws our attention to the research of the Canadian scholar Ian Spears who is actually Professor at the Department of Political science, University of Guelph in the province of Ontario (Canada). Prof. Ian Spears has always been particularly interested in the process through which African elites do share political power. His view on the issue might be too « realist ». However, with regards to what is actually going on in Ivory Coast, a close analysis of the reality proves how accurate his argumentations are.

Among his prominent publications are:

1. “The Limits of Power-Sharing”, Journal of Democracy. Vol. 13. No. 3 (July 2002), pp.123-136.

2. Civil War in African States: The Search for Security, FirstForum Press, Boulder, 2010, 281 p.
